Imposter Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon that affects 70% of women and 50% of men at some stage. It is where you are convinced you’re not good enough, or your success is not deserved, basically you feel like an imposter or a fraud in your position. It’s an incredibly damaging train of thought, particularly as often these beliefs are so engrained that you struggle to distinguish them from real facts.
Here are some common signs that you might be suffering from imposter syndrome:
- Do you believe that your success is due to good luck or good timing?
- Do the voices in your head tell you you’re not good enough at what you’re doing?
- Are you constantly comparing yourself to others and believing they are all bigger and better?
- Perhaps you find yourself putting off work or tasks all the time? This is your subconscious not wanting to start because you might be sacred of getting it wrong.
- At the other end of the spectrum is overworking. This can be a signal, because you believe you must over compensate by working all hours of the given day and night.
- Chronic self-doubt and negative self talk.
In my confidence workshop, we work together to identify your ‘competence type’ which gives you a better understanding of yourself and where the imposter syndrome originates from. We then go through activities to reduce and replace the negative self-talk. Feeling more confident in yourself, can give you so much freedom, including the freedom to make bolder decisions and take more ‘risks’ which could turn your business around.
